I am Joanne Brady and I started in social media freelancing by accident - I started a blog when I had a set of twins in 2011, and quickly developed

all the skills needed to promote it, in particular those around nurturing a community on various social media channels.

I then started work for a social media consultant, just doing a few hours a week for her clients around my four children and their various needs. By 2013 I had picked up a couple of my own clients and got very busy. By 2015, I'd rented an office and took on my first two employees. It's been a bumpy journey and Brexit and the coronavirus crisis hasn't helped!

I and my two employees now spend our days and weeks looking after the social media marketing for several UK based SMEs. We are experts on Facebook pages, LinkedIn company pages, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest. We also write blog content and do various other digital marketing tasks, such as basic website maintenance and online chat and email.

The motivation to set up in business is ongoing rather than it being a lightbulb moment. I am good at the work and it's something I can fit in around my other commitments in life. The intention wasn't to set up my own business in digital marketing, more that I wanted, nay needed, to find a way of having an income and semblance of a career without compromising on looking after my family's needs.

Social Bods is not only a female led business but all employees are also female. We have had a male employee, but he was certainly outnumbered!
